It is a truth universally acknowledged that geologists aren’t always the easiest people to buy for at Christmas. Which is why, knowing our staff, research partners and academics like we do, our Geology Shops are full to the brim with the most wonderful presents for rock fans old and new. Below we’ve highlighted just a few items in-store that might be gneiss gifts for the special ones in your life, and to top it off we’ve even arranged for our stores to stock geology-inspired wrapping paper!
Read on for the presents you’ll love, and a competition to
win a gift hamper!
Need something to keep you occupied during the cold winter
evenings? We now have both the Bedrock Geology and William Smith 1820 maps, handily
transformed into 1000 piece jigsaw puzzles! Test your knowledge of the UK and
Ireland and while away the hours placing your
metamorphosed mafic in just the right spot. They even come with 1:250k scale maps!
If you want puzzles for younger children, we can help with those too – we have
STEM puzzles and dinosaur jigsaws aimed at little ones.
We have a fine selection of cups for your early morning
coffee and late evening cocoa. There’s something for space buffs, map fiends
and also those who like their coffee on the go, with our reusable travel mugs. We
even have cups with puns on them… and we know how rock lovers adore a good
geology pun.
Whether it’s a 1960s inspired coaster that grabs your
attention, or you’re more interested in geological topography, our coasters
make a really fun stocking filler. Despite looking great, they’re wonderful at
preventing stains getting all over research papers and maps. Trust us, the
researcher in your life will thank you.
Christmas just isn’t Christmas without a cuddly toy or two,
and we’ve got a great selection of geologically-inspired stuffed beasts. Choose
from a stegosaurus, a sabre-toothed tiger, a triceratops or even a woolly
mammoth and watch your kids’ (or favourite adults’) face light up when opening
their present come Christmas morning.
Make your mantelpiece the most beautifully decorated in town
with our wonderful Tilnar Art soapstone. If you’re feeling the festive spirit
we have a divine Christmas range, featuring the cutest reindeers and jolliest
Santas. Or, if you’d prefer a year-round treat, check out our fine set of
ornaments and even cookware! All our soapstone products are Fairtrade too.
Selection of rocks, fossils and minerals
Add a little sparkle to your life with our rocking selection of rocks, fossils and minerals. From large amethyst churches to pocket sized tumblestones, trilobites to serpentine, we’ve got your favourite earth materials ready to wrap and pop under the Christmas tree.

pieces, or smaller more delicate creations, there’s something for everyone
here.
If you’re not able to get to a BGS shop before Christmas, we
have limited stock available through our website. Or, why not take part in our Festive Hamper
